About the role

This is an opportunity to lead Neol’s engineering efforts.

We are currently hiring a Lead engineer to work closely with senior stakeholders to understand business goals and ensure that the development team & technologies used are aligned with these.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Developing a technical roadmap to meet the existing and potential needs of customers, users and internal systems
  • Working closely with senior stakeholders to understand business requirements and help translate these into technical requirements for the development team
  • Planning and documenting technical specifications for features or system design
  • Designing, building and configuring applications to meet business process and application requirements
  • Directing the development team in the design, development, coding, testing and debugging of applications
  • Writing testable, scalable and efficient code and leading code reviews
  • Mentoring junior team members and ensuring they adhere to determining software quality standards
  • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code
  • Remain current on new technologies and available vendor packages, evaluate and make recommendations as necessary
  • Assist in task planning, scheduling and staffing
  • Grow engineering teams by interviewing, recruiting and hiring
  • Stay on the leading edge of development practices

Note: We don't have a strict tech stack requirement. Candidates should be experienced in building tech stacks from scratch based on customer, user and business requirements.

Ideal candidate

We are looking for a hands-on technical lead with strong experience in leading teams building greenfield projects. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who likes to work alongside other leaders in product, design, and software, and has successfully led teams of 5+ people on various projects before. From a technical point of view, the ideal candidate has expertise in the backend, building out architecture for such systems, preferably in marketplace applications.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience building backend applications with relational and non-relational databases. Experience in building applications with highly-connected data; and affinity with graph data structures and databases such as Neo4J are preferred. The ideal candidate must have working experience with Node.js.

Having experience in cloud technologies and CI/CD preferably with Google Cloud is required. Experience in serverless systems is a plus.

The ideal candidate also has either working experience or team-leading experience in front-end technologies, especially in building single-page applications providing a top-notch user experience in mobile browsers.

The candidate will be in charge of a team of full-stack engineers; and should be positioned to grow further into management roles.

Location

  • We are a remote-first team. Currently, we have two main hubs: London and Istanbul, but we have distributed team members from GMT- 8 to GMT +5 timezones.For this role, we prioritize candidates that are located in Europe, between GMT+1 and GMT+3 time zones.
